A Soldiers Love

There you lay in the sand
With a gun in your hand
Everything different from your dreams
Nothing is as it seems
You look up in the sky
To ask the grand old question why
You wish the pain in your heart
Would quit tearing you apart
You have seen so many die
But yet to yourself you lie
You chose to fight to save
All of those who always gave
You pray to god to protect you
To please let you go home even if new
You think of your wife, kids, mom, dad
Reminiscing on the past you had
You know you have to be strong
That you will be home before long
You chose to be where you are
You had no fear of how far
Now you are in a distant land
Fighting side by side hand in hand
Doing what you can to
Protect your nation, family, friends, even you
You cry with pain of those you lost
But you know oh to well that that is the cost
You are proud to be where you are
To have the privilege to help even from a far
There you are in the sand
With a gun in your hand
Praying to god to protect you all
And every single solider that made the call
